Healers have been using the healing energy that is now called Reiki for thousands of years, but it was rediscovered in modern times by a Buddhist monk named Mikao Usui.  Reiki is a Japanese word that means universal energy.  Universal energy animates us and gives us life, and this energy is a powerful healing force.      The universal energy that is channeled by a Reiki healer is guided by spiritual consciousness, so it has a wisdom of its own.  It knows where to go and what to do.  During a healing, we receive the amount of universal energy that we are open to receive.  We may experience physical sensations, heat coming from the hands of the healer, or light.  Our experience depends on what we are ready to experience at that moment.     We all have resistance that blocks energy from circulating in a healthy way through our bodies.  Blocked energy can cause disease and unhappiness.  If we are truly open to being healed, Reiki energy will cause the energy in the body to return to a healthy flow.      Reiki is increasing in popularity.  More and more hospitals offer Reiki treatments, and Dr. Oz encourages people to get Reiki treatments.
